ROK Ambassador Calls on Humayun Kabir State Minister for Foreign Affairs

Ambassador if the Republic of Korea Kim Ji-joon called on Humayun Kabir, State Minister for Foreign Affairs on Tuesday Sept 29.

Dhaka, 29 September: Korean Ambassador Kim Ji-joon called on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today. 

The State Minister said that Bangladesh attaches great importance to its longstanding and close relations with the Republic of Korea. He highlighted the growing cooperation between the two countries in areas including trade, investment, development cooperation, human resource development and technology.

The two sides discussed the State Minister’s upcoming visit to Korea, during which he is expected to hold talks with senior Korean officials and meet representatives of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). During the visit, he will also convey an invitation from the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to the President of Korea to visit Bangladesh. 

The State Minister noted that his visit would pave the way for many more engagements between Bangladesh and Korea in the days ahead.

Ambassador Kim welcomed the initiative to convey the invitation personally and described it as a very positive step in further strengthening the bilateral relationship.

The State Minister welcomed the conclusion of negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and expressed the hope that the agreement would further expand bilateral trade and investment.

The two sides also discussed opportunities for greater Korean investment in Bangladesh, particularly in technology, artificial intelligence (AI), shipbuilding, electronics and other high-value and technology-intensive sectors.

Ambassador Kim appreciated the growing Bangladesh-Korea partnership and expressed Korea’s interest in further strengthening bilateral cooperation. 

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further deepening Bangladesh-Korea relations and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest. - Press release
