Israel, Morocco agree to upgrade ties, open embassies

Israel and Morocco have agreed to upgrade diplomatic ties, including by opening embassies and appointing ambassadors to each other’s countries, says the Israeli government.


The agreement was made during a meeting in New York between Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and US Ambassador to the UN Mike Walz, according to a statement on the Israeli government’s official Arabic-language X account.

Israel and Morocco also agreed to expand flight operations between them and finalise a deal on investment protection, said the Israeli government statement.

Morocco first agreed to normalise ties with Israel back in December 2020 under the US-brokered Abraham Accords, reports AL Jazeera.
