International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam on Monday said Bangladesh has no specific information about the legal status of deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently staying in India.

He made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists on Monday morning.

Aminul Islam said the Bangladesh government had already requested India to extradite Hasina and that the necessary legal procedures had been initiated to bring her back to Bangladesh.

Asked about an Indian media report suggesting that court approval might be required for Hasina's return, the chief prosecutor said the report did not clarify whether she was staying in India under political asylum or what her exact legal status was.

“Therefore, it would not be appropriate to comment based on that report,” he said.

The chief prosecutor's remarks come amid continued discussions between Bangladesh and India over Hasina's extradition.
