Dhaka is eyeing US investment and technological support to modernise its transport system.

This was revealed when US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen paid a courtesy call on Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam at his Secretariat office, according to an official handout.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest, focusing on ongoing development activities in Bangladesh’s road, rail and water transport sectors and prospects for enhanced cooperation.

The minister said the government is working relentlessly to build a modern, safe and sustainable transport system across the country, expressing optimism about potential US investment and technological support.

Ambassador Christensen welcomed the current government and reaffirmed continued US cooperation in road safety, modern transport systems and sustainable infrastructure development.

He also stressed strengthening bilateral cooperation, increasing investment and promoting technology transfer to further advance Bangladesh’s transport sector.

Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Dhaka said the envoy and the minister discussed opportunities to modernise Bangladesh’s infrastructure and supply chains, noting that American companies offer world-class expertise in transportation and logistics to strengthen trade connectivity.

Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Dr Mohammad Ziaul Haque was present at the meeting, reports BSS.
