A couple allegedly committed suicide at their home in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Manik Chandro Roy, 40, and his wife Subhashi Chandro Roy, 35, residents of Lakshmipur Kamarpara under Mohammadpur union.

Police recovered their bodies from the bedroom on Saturday morning after being informed by locals. It is suspected that the couple took their lives out of frustration caused by childlessness, financial hardship, and mounting debts.

According to locals, the couple had borrowed a large sum of money for infertility treatment, which was unsuccessful and pushed them further into financial crisis and depression.

Abdur Gofur, in-charge of Birganj Police Station, said the couple had a long-standing family dispute over their childlessness, which might have led them to suicide, reports UNB.

He added that although no formal complaint was filed, the bodies have been sent to the morgue for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
