Dhaka, Aug 15 — A suspected thief died after falling from the second-floor cornice of a house while allegedly attempting to steal in the capital’s Muradpur area on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Md Selim, 37, a resident of Kadamtali area in Cumilla. He was the son of late Halim Mia and lived with his foster parents Anwar Mia and Rabeya at a house in North Muradpur.

Kabir Hossain, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kadamtali Police Station, said they recovered Selim’s blood-covered body from the paved road in front of a house in Muradpur around 9 am.

Police later sent the body to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy after completing the necessary legal procedures.

Locals said Selim allegedly went to Sattar Mia’s house around 6:30am to steal and fell from the third-floor cornice while climbing up.

He was critically injured and died on the way to hospital, the SI said.

However, the exact cause of death will be known after receiving the autopsy report, he added. - UNB
