Two counter-cases have been filed against five individuals, including Nurul Haque Nur, president of Gono Odhikar Parishad and former Ducsu VP, following a violent clash during the eviction of a club in Khulna.
Nayeem Hawlader, joint convenor of the Khulna metropolitan unit of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, filed one case, while Sheikh Sakib Ahmed, a district committee member, lodged another at Khulna Sadar Police Station, according to Officer-in-Charge Hawladar Sanwar Hossain Masum.
Arrest Warrant Issued for Former OC of Khulna Sadar for Contempt of Court
The case filed by Nayeem Hawlader named four individuals: Nurul Haque Nur, SK Rashed (general secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad's metropolitan unit), Md Jony (central joint organising secretary of Jubo Odhikar Parishad), and Taizul Islam. Sheikh Sakib Ahmed’s case also includes four accused: Rashed, Jony, Aziz Sheikh Rubel (organising secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad’s Khulna metropolitan unit), and a person named Hiron.
Earlier, on March 21, SK Rashed filed a case against five members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement: Sajidul Islam Buppi (member secretary of the Khulna district committee), joint convenors Nazmul Hossain and Mohorrom Mahim, joint chief organiser Sheikh Rafsan Jani, and central member Rumi Rahman. Both parties have filed separate complaints, with further action pending an investigation, added the OC.
Background of the Clash
The dispute traces back to January 27, when a club named "Panchabeethi Krira Chakra" was established in a government building owned by the Public Works Department at Shantidham Mor in Khulna. The building had been occupied by the Gono Odhikar Parishad office, led by Sheikh Rashidul Islam, general secretary of the party’s Khulna metropolitan unit.
After news of the occupation emerged, Rashed was removed from his duties that same night. However, he continued using the building for party activities despite his dismissal. Recently, signboards for various affiliated organizations were also placed at the site.
On March 17, local leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens’ Committee in Khulna used Facebook to rally support for the building’s eviction. Later that evening, around 9 PM, a violent confrontation erupted as the two groups clashed during the attempted eviction, resulting in several injuries.
