Teen girl gang raped in Cumilla; one arrested

Cumilla, Aug 30 --A 15-year-old girl was gang-raped allegedly by her boyfriend and four of his friends while they were out on a trip to Lalmai Hills in Cumilla.

Police arrested one of the accused, Sakib, 22, involved in the incident.

Sakib was arrested from the Lalmai Hills area of Sadar Dakshin Upazila on Sunday afternoon, said Rakibul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar Dakshin Model Police Station.

Sakib is the son of Shahid Mia from the Ujirpur area of Kalir Bazar Union in Adarsh Sadar Upazila of the district.

Quoting the victim, police said that on Saturday (August 29) afternoon, the girl came to Dharmasagar area of Cumilla city from her house in Chandina Upazila of the district after receiving a call from her boyfriend Siam. Siam picked her up on a motorcycle, telling her to go out in Kotbari area.

From there, she was taken to a secluded place in Sadhermura area of Lalmai Hills in Sadar Dakshin Upazila of Cumilla. Some of Siam's friends were already present at that secluded place on the hill. When evening approached, Siam and his friends raped the girl throughout the night by threatening her. When the matter came to light on Sunday, locals, with the help of the girl, stopped Shakib and called 999 for emergency police assistance.

Cantonment police outpost and police station went to the spot and rescued the girl and arrested Shakib.

South Model Police Station OC Rakibul Islam said that the girl's father filed a case against her boyfriend Siam and 5 others as the main accused in the incident.

The girl is being treated at the One Stop Crisis Center of Comilla Medical College Hospital. Police are conducting a drive to arrest the other accused involved in the incident. - UNB
