A teenage boy was killed and 15 other people were injured in a clash between two groups over protesting drug dealing in Uttarpara in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria district early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Raihan, 15, son of Choton Mia of the village.

Officer-in-Charge of Sarail Police Station Manjur Quader Bhuiyan said one Sajeeb Mia gave Tk 300 to a young man around 10:00pm on Friday asking him to buy Yaba tablets for him but he purchased biscuit with the money instead of Yaba, and ate those.

An altercation took place between Sajeeb Mia and the young man over the issue.

At one stage, some anti-drug campaigners, including Jashim, Kamal and Dewan, appeared there and wanted to know the matter in detail.

Two young men in support of Sajeeb – Shaheen and Ratan Mia – also appeared there and both groups locked into a heated argument, which continued till 12:30am on Saturday.

At one stage, both groups equipped with sharp weapons attacked each other, leaving 16 people, including Raihan, injured.

Raihan was taken to Sarail Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, reports BSS.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
