Man held for ‘rape attempt’ on 7-year-old girl in Rangpur

Police have arrested a man for allegedly attempting to rape a seven-year-old girl in a jute field in Rangpur city.
The arrest of Badiuzzaman, 45, a labourer, was confirmed by Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud at a press conference on Tuesday.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Monday night in the Kolabari area of Mahiganj. The accused lured the child by giving her a packet of chips and took her to a nearby jute field and attempted to rape her, but fled when local people noticed the incident.
The victim’s guardian filed a case at Mahiganj Police Station in this regard.
Later, police launched a drive and arrested the accused in the early hours of Tuesday.
Police said Badiuzzaman lives in Dhaka and occasionally visits Rangpur, reports UNB.
