Prime Minister Tarique Rahman spoke at the 127th birth anniversary celebration of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam in Trishal on Saturday.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today said the government would ensure the highest legal punishment for the person accused in the murder of Ramisa within the next month, stressing that crimes against children and women would not be tolerated.
The Prime Minister made the remarks while inaugurating a three-day national programme marking the 127th birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam in Trishal this afternoon.
Referring to the incident, he said the killing of the innocent child reflected a serious decline in social and moral values.
“The greatest damage that has taken place, particularly during the period of the previous regime, is the erosion of humanity, compassion, and the country's long-standing religious and social values,” he said.
Mentioning the Ramisa case, he said the government remains committed to taking a firm stance against violence targeting children and women.
“The government will not tolerate any form of child abuse or violence against women. We will ensure the highest punishment under the law for the person responsible for Ramisa’s murder,” he said.
He added that strict punishment would help create a strong deterrent so that similar crimes are not repeated in the future.
Emphasising the importance of building a safer society, the Prime Minister said the establishment of the rule of law remains essential.
“To build a safe and humane state and society, we must strengthen the rule of law and bring positive changes to political culture,” he said.
He also stressed the need to revive the country’s long-standing social, religious and cultural values, saying the life and works of Kazi Nazrul Islam continue to hold strong relevance in that regard.
Following the murder of Ramisa, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited the victim’s residence in Pallabi, Dhaka, on Thursday night, where he met family members and assured them of a speedy trial process.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed later told journalists that the charge sheet in the murder case is expected to be submitted before the court by Sunday afternoon.
The three-day programme celebrating the National Poet’s birth anniversary began today at Nazrul Mancha on the Nazrul Academy grounds in Darirampur, Trishal, a place associated with the poet’s childhood memories.
The event is being organised by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and attended by ministers, academics, cultural figures and local representatives.
