Police have submitted a charge sheet in a case over an alleged attempt to murder Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activist Sheikh Mohammad Ashik during the July mass uprising, naming 40 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Among the other accused are former ministers Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Jahangir Kabir Nanak, as well as former lawmaker Sadek Khan and ward councillors Asif Ahammed and Tarekuzzaman Rajib.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) Nasir Ahmed Hawalader said the charge sheet was filed with the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on May 1. The court is set to hold a hearing on whether to accept the charge sheet on May 13.

According to the case details, the incident took place on July 19, 2024, during protests in the Mayur Villa area near Mohammadpur Bus Stand. Demonstrators were allegedly attacked with batons and gunfire around 2:45pm.

Ashik was shot during the হামলা and collapsed on the road. The attackers reportedly left the scene, believing him to be dead.

The case was filed by Ashik with Mohammadpur Police Station on September 28, 2024, naming 129 accused, including Sheikh Hasina, along with 150 unidentified individuals.
