Bangladesh made a solid start to their first innings in the Chattogram Test against Zimbabwe, reaching 105 without loss at lunch on day two, thanks to a composed half-century from opener Shadman Islam.
Shadman remained unbeaten on 66—his sixth Test fifty—while his opening partner Anamul Haque Bijoy supported him well with 38 not out, as the hosts laid a strong foundation in response to Zimbabwe’s 227.
Earlier, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam wrapped up Zimbabwe’s innings with the very first ball of the morning, dismissing Blessing Muzarabani to claim his 16th five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Taijul finished with impressive figures of 6 for 60.
Zimbabwe had resumed the day at 227 for nine, having failed to add any further runs before being bowled out. Sean Williams (67) and Nick Welch (54) were the top scorers for the visitors.
Zimbabwe, who won the opening Test in Sylhet, need only a draw in Chattogram to clinch the two-match series. Bangladesh, on the other hand, are aiming to bounce back and level the series.
