Dhaka, 9 Feb - The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) made headlines repeatedly due to run-fest and overwhelming response of the spectators in
this season.
The BPL saw record of sixes before the knockout stages. Overall the batters
hit 715 sixes, making it the highest ever in the BPL history. Indeed more
than 700 sixes were hit for the first time.
This year's BPL also saw the record of most 50 plus knocks. A total of 72 50
plus knocks were played by the batters, that emulated the record 2019-2020.
The total runs in this year's BPL were 14642 which is highest, going past
14496 runs in 2019-2020 season. This time, the runs per over have increased
to 8.50, which was 8.24 in the 2019-20 season. Overall the BPL saw eight
individual centuries this time, which is also highest eclipsing the six
century in 2018-2019 season.
The galleries were jam-packed like never seen before. Despite some negative
news, the spectators came to the stadium in abundance.
According to BPL member secretary Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, the reason was online
ticketing system and run-fest in the tournament.
"The online ticketing system made a revolution, giving the spectators to buy
tickets without any hassle unlike the previous time," Fahim told the BSS.
"The pitch was another success story. The BPL governing council this time
strictly told the curators to prepare sporting pitch, which they did that
resulted in providing high scoring game in every match."
The final count of ticket sale is not yet known, but ticket sales during the
league phase alone exceeded Taka 10 crore. All the three knock out matches
and final match were jam-packed, meaning there is chance the ticket sell to
exceed Taka 50 crore.
Also the local batters enjoyed a good run in this BPL, which is another
pleasing factor. Before the BPL, the young players stole the limelight in the
National Cricket League (NCL) T20.
Jishan Alam, Ariful Islam, Azizul Hakim, Ahmed Sharif, Rakibul Hasan made
headlines with their on-field performances. But they could not make any
impression in the BPL. Familiar and experienced names indeed occupied the top
10 slot in both batting and bowling chart. Nine of the top 10 batters have
played for the Bangladesh team at some point. The only exception is a
foreigner- Graham Clark.
The English batter of Chittagong Kings finished third in the batting chart
with 431 runs. In bowling, six bowlers have played for Bangladesh, and Aliss
Al Islam got a call-up to the national team despite not playing an
international match. The other three in the top 10 are from Pakistan. BSS
