Dhaka, 7 Feb  - The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) experienced a new record in its final when Chittagong Kings openers Parvez Hossain Emon and Khawaja Nafay put on 121 runs for the opening stand against Fortune Barishal at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.

This is now the highest and only 100 plus runs in opening partnership in BPL, eclipsing the 76 runs of Tamim Iqbal and Mehidy Hasan Miraz for Barishal in the last year. They did it against Cumilla Victorians on the way to clinch their maiden BPL title.

Overall, this is the sixth highest opening partnership in a recognized T20 tournament’s final. The record 159-run partnership was held by Chennai Super Kings' Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay in the 2011 IPL final against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Both Nafay and Emon played in aggressive fashion by treating the bowlers in disdain, on the course of a record partnership,

Ebadot Hossain finally broke the partnership in 12.4 overs when he got the better of Nafay who reached his half-century with a six and eventually was dismissed after making 66 off 44 with seven fours and three sixes. Emon, however, carried the bat throughout the innings to stay not out on 78 off 49. He smote six fours and four sixes.

But despite their effort, Chittagong failed to go past 200, which looked highly likely. After the dismissal of Nafay, Emon slowed down considerably that indeed denied Chittagong a 200 plus total in placid surface.bss
