Sylhet, 7 Nov - Towhid Hridoy inscribed his name into cricket folklore of Bangladesh with a sublime unbeaten double century against West Indies in the second and final Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today.

He set several new records for Bangladesh and joins an elite group of batters in Test cricket.

Hridoy's unbeaten 242 off 359 balls, featuring 22 fours and 11 sixes, not only rescued Bangladesh from a precarious position but also made him the country's highest individual Test scorer.

He surpassed Mushfiqur Rahim's previous record of 219, scored against Zimbabwe in Mirpur in 2018, to become the first Bangladeshi batter to score a double century in his maiden Test hundred.

Hridoy also became the fourth Bangladeshi batter to score a double century in Test cricket, joining Mushfiqur, who has three double centuries, Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal.

His 11 sixes put him in joint second place for the most sixes in a Test innings. Only Wasim Akram and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who have struck 12 sixes each in an innings, are ahead of him. Among Bangladeshi batters, Tamim previously held the record with seven sixes against Pakistan in Khulna in 2015.

Hridoy also set a new national record for the highest percentage of a team's total in a completed Test innings. His unbeaten 242 accounted for 62.69 per cent of Bangladesh's total of 386.

The previous record was held by Liton Das, who scored 25 in Bangladesh's 43 all out against West Indies in 2018, contributing 58.13 per cent of the team's total.

Another remarkable achievement came through boundaries. Hridoy scored 154 runs through fours and sixes, the highest boundary-run contribution by a Bangladeshi batter in a Test innings. Shakib previously held the record with 124 boundary runs, including 31 fours, during his 217 against New Zealand in 2017.

Hridoy's innings also became the highest individual score by a Bangladeshi batter at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, surpassing Mahmudul Hasan Joy's 171 against Ireland in 2025.

Bangladesh's recovery from 184-6 was equally remarkable, with Hridoy leading the lower-order fightback. The hosts added 202 runs after losing their seventh wicket, their highest aggregate from the final three wickets in a Test innings, surpassing the previous record of 198 against Zimbabwe in 2021.

Hridoy also broke Shakib's record for the most runs scored by a Bangladeshi batter in a single day of a Test match. Resuming the day on 29, he added an unbeaten 213 runs, surpassing Shakib's previous record of 212 against New Zealand in 2017.

His extraordinary innings transformed Bangladesh's position in the match and gave the hosts a 30-run first-innings lead after West Indies had scored 356.BSS
