Towhid Hridoy’s aggressive 42 off 25 balls helped Bangladesh post 111 for seven against Pakistan in the rain-shortened Asian Games semi-final in Nisshin, Japan, on Thursday.
The match was reduced to 13 overs per side after a lengthy delay caused by a wet outfield. Bangladesh struggled early, losing three wickets for 23 runs during the four-over powerplay.
Hridoy then steadied the innings and accelerated the scoring, sharing a 43-run partnership with Mosaddek Hossain.
Mosaddek scored 15 before being dismissed, while Hridoy’s 25-ball knock proved crucial in taking Bangladesh beyond the 100-run mark.
Captain Litton Das had a disappointing outing, scoring just two runs from three balls before being bowled while attempting a reverse sweep.
Saif Hasan also made a contribution, but most of Bangladesh’s batters failed to reach double figures.
Pakistan’s Sufyan Moqim was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets for 26 runs in his three overs. Pakistan also conceded 15 wides.
Bangladesh finished on 111 for seven, setting Pakistan a target of 112 runs from 13 overs.
