Tigresses to face India in Asian Games semifinal
Bangladesh and India are set to renew their rivalry tomorrow (Sunday) when the two sides meet in the semi-final of the Asian Games women’s cricket competition at Korogi Athletic Park in Nagoya.
The match kicks off at 5PM, Bangladesh time.
Bangladesh advanced to the semifinals after their match against China was abandoned due to rain, with Bangladesh progressing on the basis of their higher ranking.
With rain a frequent possibility in Nagoya, another washout could have a major impact on the semifinal.
Under the same rule, India, being the higher-ranked side, would advance to the final if the match is abandoned.
“If the match is not played, India will reach the final as they are ahead in the rankings,” Bangladesh women’s team manager Faiyaz Ahmed said.
Bangladesh recently suffered a 40-run defeat to India in the semifinal of the Women’s Asia Cup.
Bangladesh coach Sarwar Imran said the team had worked on the weaknesses exposed in that match.
“We had weaknesses in our fielding and running between the wickets. We have tried to overcome those shortcomings over the last few days,” he said.
India will start the match with the higher ranking, but Sarwar remains hopeful of Bangladesh’s chances in the shortest format, reports BSS.
“In a semi-final, every team takes the field with the target of reaching the final, and we are hopeful as well. The outfield is a little slow, so there could be changes to the playing XI,” he said.
