U19 beat U23 for second victory in GD trophy

Dhaka, 30 Aug —Bangladesh Under-19 beat Under-23 team by four runs for their second straight victory in a thrilling contest in Game Development trophy at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.

Put into bat first, the Under-19 boys who crushed Under-17 side by 246 runs in their previous game piled up 226, before defending the total by dismissing Under-23 for 222 in 49.3 overs.

Pacer Abdur Rahim was the stand out figure for Under-19, claiming 4-52, which won the game for them from the jaws of the defeat.

Al Rafi and Tafiul Alam Tamim scalped two wickets apiece while SK Jarif Siyam and Robiul Hasan Anik took one wicket each. Rizan Hossan was the top-scorer for Under-23 with 44 while opener Khalid Hasan made 34.

Jarif Siyam who struck a brilliant 99 against Under-17, this time couldn’t give the side an expected start after scoring 19. However his fellow opener Abdullah Al Muhib made 40 to keep the side flowing before Robiul Hasan Anik steadied the innings.

Anik hit 65 to ensure the side would go past 200 and set a challenging total for their senior brothers. Ahsan Al Mumin was the other notable scorer with 37 while Farhan Sadik scored 29.

Sheikh Parvez Jibon snapped up 3-38 for Under-23 while Azizul Hakim Tamim and Ahrar Amin Pean snared two wickets apiece.BSS
