Sheikh Hasina
A Dhaka court on Tuesday ordered the transfer of a sedition case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 285 others to the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court for trial.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ishrat Jennifer Zerin passed the order after completing the required procedures.
According to case documents, CID Assistant Superintendent of Police Md Enamul Haque filed the case on 27 March against 73 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina, on charges of sedition. A charge sheet submitted on 30 July expanded the list of accused to 286.
On 14 October, the court directed the publication of notices in newspapers for 256 absconding accused, including Sheikh Hasina, instructing them to appear before the court.
The case stems from a Zoom meeting held on 19 December last year of the “Joy Bangla Brigade,” during which Sheikh Hasina allegedly made anti-state statements and urged her followers to attempt to overthrow the current interim government led by Prof Muhammad Yunus.
