Prime Accused Mehraj Remanded in Parvez Killing Case

Mehraj Islam, 20, the prime suspect in the brutal killing of Zahidul Islam Parvez, a third-year student of the Textile Engineering Department at Primeasia University, was placed under five-day police remand by a Dhaka court today. The incident occurred in the Banani area on April 19.

The order was passed by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub after the police presented Mehraj in court and requested a 10-day remand for further interrogation.

Mehraj, son of Nurul Islam Sardar from Banani Hajaribari, was arrested on April 23 by a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 team in Gaibandha Sadar upazila.

The tragedy unfolded on April 19 when Zahidul Parvez and his friend Md Tariqul Islam were attacked by a group of individuals armed with sharp weapons on a road near Primeasia University. Parvez, who suffered critical injuries, was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.

Following the attack, Parvez's cousin, Humayun Kabir, filed a case with Banani Police Station on April 20, naming eight suspects and accusing 25-30 individuals in total for their involvement in the crime.
