A government-appointed committee reviewing politically motivated and harassing cases has recommended the withdrawal of 4,615 cases, according to an update from the Ministry of Law on Thursday.

Led by Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Professor Dr Asif Nazrul, the committee has held six meetings to assess the merit of cases for withdrawal.

The ministry’s statement noted that during its 15-year rule, the ousted Awami League government had filed numerous cases against opponents, many of which were deemed politically motivated.

Following the political transition on August 5 last year, the interim government pledged to ensure justice by dismissing such cases. The initiative is part of its broader commitment to upholding the rule of law and addressing past legal injustices.

The committee is expected to make further recommendations as the review process continues.
