Court Imposes Travel Ban on 14 Ex Ministers and MPs

A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on 14 former ministers and members of parliament as of August 29. Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain issued the order in response to a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The travel ban affects six former ministers—Zahid Maleque, Dr. Dipu Moni, Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, Sadhan Chandra Majumder, Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Kamal Ahmed Majumder, Shahjahan Khan, and Qamrul Islam—and eight former MPs: Salim Uddin, Mamunur Rashid Kiran, Kujendra Lal Tripura, Kazim Uddin, Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury, and Ziaur Rahman.

The ACC's petition highlighted concerns that these individuals, who are under investigation for alleged corruption and the accumulation of illegal wealth, might attempt to flee the country.

The travel ban is intended to prevent such actions and ensure a thorough investigation.
