10-year jail for producing adulterated medicines

A person will be jailed for 10 years or will be fined Tk 10,0000 maximum or both if he or she is found guilty for producing counterfeit or adulterated medicines.

This provision has been included in the draft of Drugs Act, 2022 which was approved in a regular meeting of the Cabinet held at the Cabinet Division on Thursday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting, joining virtually from her official residence Ganobhaban.
Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam said this after the meeting.
Producing, storing, selling and importing medicines as well as giving licences have been included in the draft law. If anyone violates rules, he or she will be punished, he said.
The cabinet members and officials concerned were present at the Secretariat meeting venue.
