(Albawaba) — Washington is expanding its campaign against Iran’s weapons supply routes with a new task force, as the Iranian Revolutionary Guard warns of a devastating response to any renewed attack.

US Central Command announced Saturday that Task Force Iron Gate would target the movement of advanced weapons, dual-use technologies and sanctioned materials across Iran’s land borders and the Caspian Sea.

The task force will consist of approximately 20 military and civilian personnel based in Tampa, Florida. It will coordinate with other US government agencies to disrupt these shipments and revenue streams Washington considers illegal.

CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper said the initiative would reinforce the naval blockade and limit Iran’s ability to rebuild weapons factories and replenish its military. Washington has not detailed how the task force will intercept or disrupt shipments crossing Iran’s borders.

Meanwhile, Revolutionary Guard spokesperson Hossein Mohebi warned that any fresh attack would trigger a powerful response. Speaking in Tehran, he said Iran continued manufacturing missiles and drones and developing underground missile facilities despite previous bombardments.

Separately, Iran’s state news agency reported two explosions east of Qeshm Island in Hormozgan province. Iranian television later denied that strikes had targeted cities in the province, suggesting the sounds could stem from Iranian forces’ activities in the Strait of Hormuz. No connection to the new US task force was established in those reports. – Eurasia Riview
