Yemen's internationally recognised government has claimed that more than 2,750 targeted strikes were carried out against Houthi forces over the past 24 hours, leaving more than 1,400 fighters killed or wounded.
The strikes were part of an ongoing military operation aimed at recapturing territory controlled by the Iran-backed Houthi movement.
Colonel Majid al-Nujaidi, a spokesperson for Yemen's armed forces, announced the figures in a statement published by the country's state news agency, Saba.
He said the operation, dubbed “Dawn of Yemen”, targeted key military installations deep inside Houthi-controlled areas.
Al-Nujaidi also claimed that ground forces had breached Houthi defensive lines, recaptured strategic positions and consolidated their gains. He said the operation was continuing according to its planned military strategy.
Yemen's government announced the launch of “Dawn of Yemen” on Sunday, with the stated objective of regaining territory held by the Iran-backed Houthis.
The claims about the number of strikes and Houthi casualties could not be independently verified.
