More than 38,000 women and girls were killed in the Gaza conflict by the end of 2025, according to a UN estimate released on Friday, accounting for over half of the 71,000 deaths reported by Gaza’s health authorities.
A spokesperson for UN Women said that between October 2023 and December 2025, Israeli airstrikes and ground operations led to the deaths of more than 22,000 women and 16,000 girls, averaging at least 47 women and girls killed each day.
The agency also said nearly 11,000 women and girls have suffered life-altering injuries resulting in permanent disabilities.
According to the UN, the conflict has severely disrupted Palestinian family structures, leaving tens of thousands of households headed by women who have lost their partners and now face survival without income, support, or access to basic services.
Nearly one million women and girls have been repeatedly displaced during the war, while around 790,000 are facing severe levels of food insecurity.
The UN added that ongoing restrictions on border crossings and humanitarian access have further limited the delivery of essential aid in the war-affected region.
