Israel said on Monday that its air force had struck Iran’s largest petrochemical facility in Assaluyeh County of Bushehr province, marking another escalation in the widening regional conflict.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said the targeted site is a major energy complex and accounts for a significant share of Iran’s petrochemical production.

His remarks came after Iranian media reported explosions in the area and said energy facilities had come under attack.

According to Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency, several blasts were heard during what it described as US-Israeli strikes on petrochemical installations in the region.

Iranian media later reported that the situation was under control, while assessments of the damage were still ongoing.

The latest strike came after similar attacks on Iranian petrochemical facilities in March, which were followed by retaliatory Iranian strikes on oil and gas infrastructure across the region.

The attack is expected to raise fresh concerns over energy security and the potential for further disruption in regional fuel supplies.
