Actress Nusraat Faria Arrested at Dhaka Airport
Dhallywood actress Nusraat Faria was arrested on Sunday, May 18, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by immigration authorities. She was later handed over to the Vatara Police Station, where she was formally detained in connection with an attempted murder case.
According to Vatara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Majharul Islam, the arrest is linked to a case filed during the 2024 anti-discrimination movement in Dhaka. Faria is among 17 individuals accused in the case, which also names actors Apu Biswas, Ashna Habib Bhabna, and Zayed Khan.
The case, filed by Enamul Haque in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Dhaka, also lists former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, 283 affiliates, and several hundred unidentified individuals. It alleges that the accused were involved in efforts to suppress the student-led anti-discrimination protests and that Faria played a role in financing these actions.
The complaint states that Enamul Haque was shot in the right leg during the protest crackdown and lost consciousness on the spot. Police say Faria has been shown arrested under charges of attempted murder as part of the ongoing investigation.
