“It is still ongoing. The full details will emerge after the inquiry is completed,” Momen told reporters during an Eid greeting event.
When asked about the latest developments regarding the allegations against Shakib, Momen acknowledged that the cricketer, who had previously worked with the ACC on anti-corruption initiatives, is under investigation. Shakib, a former Awami League lawmaker, faces multiple accusations, including involvement in a stock market scam, illegal gambling operations, gold smuggling, embezzlement of funds from crab traders, corruption in cricket, and concealing assets in his election affidavit.
In 2018, Shakib signed a contract with the ACC to serve as its brand ambassador, and he actively participated in promoting its initiatives, including the launch of the anti-corruption hotline 106. However, following the emergence of several allegations, the ACC announced in 2022 that Shakib would no longer continue in that role.
In response to media questions during the briefing, Momen noted that the commission is carefully investigating all aspects of the case and will take appropriate action once the inquiry concludes.
Additionally, a court has recently ordered the confiscation of Shakib’s assets in connection with the ongoing investigation.
