Seminar on Empathy, Tolerance and Social Cohesion Building a Better Society Held at BUP



Dhaka, 07 October 2026: The Department of Sociology under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) of the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) organised a seminar titled "Empathy, Tolerance and Social Cohesion: Building a Better Society" at the Shadhinata Auditorium.

Brisk technological changes and the influence of social media are shifting the mindset and values of younger generation of Bangladesh; this is creating opportunities on the one hand, while simultaneously raising concerns about issues such as intolerance and polarization. Therefore, the seminar was organized to raise awareness among the youth about empathy, tolerance, and responsible behavior, with the aim of preserving social harmony in future of Bangladesh.

Vice Chancellor of BUP Major General Md Mahbub-ul Alam, BSP, ndc, afwc, psc, MPhil, PhD was present as the keynote speaker at the seminar. Dr. Samia Huq, Dean of the School of General Education and Professor of Anthropology at BRAC University and Shammi Akter, Lecturer in the Department of Sociology at BUP, spoke as panel speakers.
