President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday urged universities to step up policymaking and research activities to improve the quality of higher education.

He made the call when delegations from Khulna University and Islamic University separately paid courtesy calls on him at Bangabhaban.

As Chancellor of the universities, the President directed the authorities concerned to ensure quality education.

He urged university authorities to make every possible effort to ensure that students can establish themselves as competent professionals at both national and international levels after obtaining their degrees.

During the meetings, the vice-chancellors briefed the President on the overall activities of Khulna University and Islamic University.

The President also said the government is working with due importance to rebuild and improve the country’s education system, which, he said, had been devastated and disrupted during the fascist regime.

The Khulna University delegation was led by its VC Prof Dr Md Rezaul Karim, while the Islamic University delegation was led by its VC Prof Dr AKM Motinur Rahman.

Relevant secretaries of the President’s Office were present, reports UNB.
