The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has raised the price of gold by Tk 2,507 per bhori, setting the new rate for 22-carat gold at Tk 2,04,283 per bhori.

The new price will take effect from Tuesday, according to a BAJUS press release issued on Monday night.

BAJUS said the price adjustment came following a rise in the price of pure gold in the local market.

Under the revised rates, the price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 1,94,999 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 1,67,145 per bhori, and traditional gold at Tk 1,38,942 per bhori.

Buyers will also have to pay 5 percent VAT fixed by the government and a minimum 6 percent making charge set by BAJUS, which may vary depending on design and craftsmanship.

Earlier, on November 1, BAJUS raised the price of gold by Tk 1,680 per bhori, setting the 22-carat gold rate at Tk 2,01,776 per bhori.

With the latest change, gold prices have been adjusted 74 times so far this year—raised 51 times and reduced 23 times.

However, the price of silver remains unchanged, with 22-carat silver selling at Tk 4,246 per bhori, reports UNB.
