Gold Prices Cut in Bangladesh After Record Highs

After three consecutive hikes, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has reduced gold prices in the domestic market.

In a notice issued on Saturday night, BAJUS said the price of 22-carat gold has been lowered by Tk 1,890 per bhori (11.664 grams), bringing it down to Tk 192,969. The new rates will take effect from Sunday.

According to the revised chart, the price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 184,198 per bhori, 18-carat at Tk 157,884, and traditional gold at Tk 131,045 per bhori.

BAJUS explained that a fall in pure gold (tejabi) prices in the local market prompted the adjustment.

In addition to the fixed rates, buyers will continue to pay 5% VAT under government rules and a minimum 6% making charge, which may vary depending on jewellery design and quality.

Earlier, on 23 September, BAJUS raised gold prices to a record high, setting the 22-carat rate at Tk 194,859 per bhori.
