Mongla Port has achieved a significant milestone with the simultaneous docking of four foreign commercial ships at its jetty, a testament to the port's growing capacity and efficiency in handling international trade.
According to a media release, the vessels anchored at various jetties on Monday afternoon, marking a new achievement for the port's operations.
The Panama-flagged MV Jupiter berthed at Jetty No. 5, unloading 4,083 metric tonnes of machinery goods.
The South Korea-flagged MV Marigold docked at Jetty No. 6, carrying 5,000 metric tonnes of molasses.
The Hong Kong-flagged MV Han Hui took position at Jetty No. 7 with 1,970.41 metric tonnes of steel pipes.
The Barbados-flagged MV Anka Blue anchored at Jetty No. 8, delivering 1,769.07 metric tonnes of machinery cargo.
In total, these four vessels have brought in 12,822.48 metric tonnes of goods to the port.
In addition to these four ships, Mongla Port is currently managing cargo operations for 14 other commercial vessels stationed at various locations around the port. These vessels are unloading a wide range of goods, including machinery, molasses, steel pipes, rice, coal, clinker, and fertiliser.
Deputy Director Makruzzaman highlighted the ongoing progress at the port, noting that dredging at the Outer Bar in the Bay of Bengal estuary has been completed, while dredging at the Inner Bar continues. The increased depth of the channel now enables larger foreign vessels to dock directly at the port's jetties, improving operational efficiency and reducing docking time.
He added that the simultaneous berthing of four cargo-laden ships is a direct result of these dredging efforts, underscoring Mongla Port's growing capacity to handle increasing international trade volumes and strengthen its role as a key hub for global commerce.
