Gold prices have fallen sharply in Bangladesh after two consecutive increases, with the price of 22-carat gold reduced by Tk 3,324 per bhori, according to the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS).

The revised prices came into effect from 10:00 am on Friday, said BAJUS in a statement.

Under the new rates, the price of 22-carat gold has been set at Tk 220,858 per bhori (11.664 grams), including VAT, down from Tk 224,182.

BAJUS said the adjustment was made following a decline in the price of pure gold in the local market.

The revised gold prices are:

22-carat: Tk 220,858 per bhori
21-carat: Tk 210,943 per bhori
18-carat: Tk 181,200 per bhori
Traditional gold: Tk 148,016 per bhori

BAJUS said the new rates will remain effective at jewellery shops across the country until further notice. Labour charges will continue to vary depending on jewellery designs.

The association also clarified that customers will not have to pay VAT separately, as VAT is already included in the retail price of gold and silver jewellery.

Rules regarding jewellery exchange and buyback transactions will remain unchanged, excluding applicable VAT, labour charges and stone values.

BAJUS last revised gold prices on July 22, when it raised the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,741 per bhori to Tk 224,182.
