A Bangladeshi man was shot dead by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) at the Gayeshpur border in Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga district on Saturday.

The BSF took away his body after the shooting.

The dead man was identified as Shahidul Islam, 37, son of Noskor Ali from Gayeshpur village.

According to locals, Shahidul and five or six others entered India near main pillar 70 in the afternoon.

Members of the BSF 32 Battalion opened fire on them, leaving Shahidul dead on the spot, reports UNB.

The others ran back into Bangladesh.

Lieutenant Colonel Rafiqul Alam, commander of BGB Maheshpur 58 Battalion, said, “The incident took place around 50 yards inside India. The initial report suggests they had gone there to bring drugs. Contact is underway with the BSF to bring the body back.”
