BD Man Loses Leg in Landmine Blast Near Bandarban Border
A 35-year-old Bangladeshi man lost his leg in a landmine explosion near the Myanmar border in Naikhongchhari upazila, Bandarban, on Tuesday morning.
The blast occurred around 8:00 a.m. along the zero line between border pillars 46 and 47, near the Jaruliachhari Border Outpost, according to Officer-in-Charge Md Masrul Haque of Naikhongchhari police station.
The victim, Md Tayeb, the son of Saber Ahmed from Kombonia area in Naikhongchhari Union, was reportedly crossing into Myanmar with the intent to smuggle goods. While returning with cows and other items, a landmine planted by the Arakan Army detonated, severely injuring him. The explosion caused extensive damage to the lower part of his right leg.
Local residents rushed to his aid and transported him to Naikhongchhari Upazila Health Complex in critical condition. He was later referred to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment.
OC Haque confirmed the ongoing investigation into the incident, and Naikhongchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Muhammad Mazharul Islam Chowdhury said that necessary actions will be taken in response.
