Body of Indian national given to family at Sonamasjid border

The body of Bijli Kumar Roy, a 44-year-old Indian national, was handed over through the Sonamasjid border in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj on Friday afternoon.

The body was transferred to the Indian Immigration Police via the Sonamasjid check post.

Later, it was handed over to his younger brother, Badri Roy, on Friday afternoon in the presence of Immigration Police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and Border Security Force (BSF) officials from both countries.

Bijli Kumar Roy was the son of the late Tuna Roy from Chak Jamal village in Muzaffarpur district of India.

According to sources at Shibganj Police Station and Sonamasjid Immigration, Bijli Kumar Roy was arrested by Jajira Police Station in Shariatpur district on June 24, 2021, for illegally entering Bangladesh from India.

He was later sent to Chapainawabganj prison. On January 13 this year, he was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital due to respiratory problems. Bijli Kumar Roy died on January 15 while undergoing treatment at the hospital. - UNB
