BGB seizes smuggled goods worth Tk 165.76cr in March

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods worth over Tk 165 crore 76 lakh 74 thousand in a series of drives conducted along border areas and across the country in March 2026.

According to a BGB press release issued on Wednesday, a total of 112 suspected smugglers were arrested for their alleged involvement in trafficking drugs, including Yaba, as well as other contraband items.

The force also detained 82 Bangladeshi nationals, nine Indian nationals, and 317 Myanmar nationals for illegal border crossings. Legal action has been taken against them.

The seized items include 465 grams of gold; 16,678 saris; 6,056 pieces of three-piece outfits, shirt materials, shawls, and blankets; and 6,994 ready-made garments. Other recovered goods include 469,864 cosmetics, 9,239 pieces of imitation jewellery, and more than 6.5 million fireworks.

In addition, BGB confiscated various raw materials and commodities, including 3,829 cubic feet of wood, 6,259 kilograms of tea leaves, 2,982 kilograms of betel nuts, 8,590 kilograms of coal, and 7,090 cubic feet of stone.

Other seized items include 382 mobile phones, 11,900 mobile displays, 70,081 pairs of glasses, 53,988 kilograms of cumin, 20,723 kilograms of sugar, 9,961 packets of food items, 2,309 kilograms of onions, 1,879 kilograms of garlic, 1,940 kilograms of fertilisers, 1,614 packets of pesticides, 209,021 pieces of chocolate, and several stone statues.

The drives also led to the seizure of multiple vehicles, including eight trucks or covered vans, 42 tractors or locally modified vehicles, 17 pickup vans, three private cars or buses, two trolleys or microbuses, 20 CNG-run vehicles or easy bikes, 41 motorcycles, and 22 bicycles or vans.

BGB also recovered several weapons, including a submachine gun (SMG), a pistol, 13 magazines, 35 rounds of ammunition, two mines, and other arms.

A significant quantity of narcotics was also seized during the month. These include 1,125,975 Yaba tablets, 845 grams of heroin, 12 bottles of LSD, 2,045 bottles of Phensedyl, 1.79 kilograms of crystal meth (ice), 8,129 bottles of foreign liquor, 170.5 litres of locally produced liquor, 2,368 cans of beer, 1,133.45 kilograms of marijuana, 124,840 packets of cigarettes, 183,661 narcotic tablets and injections, 4,665 bottles of Escafe syrup, 2,968 Anegra or Senegra tablets, 36,860 liquor-producing pills, and 2,144,152 pieces of various medicines and tablets.
