The information was disclosed in a press release issued by Banglalink today.
Through the platform, customers can transfer money, pay utility bills and recharge mobile numbers across all operators. As part of its introductory offer, the company will waive charges on wallet-to-wallet transfers and bill payments for the next three months.
The name ‘Mukto’ means freedom. The platform aims to reduce the time, effort and additional costs associated with everyday financial transactions.
Users can download the app from Google Play Store and iOS App Store and register using their National Identity Card (NID) and mobile number, irrespective of their mobile operator.
Banglalink customers can also access the service by dialling *525# from basic mobile phones without an internet connection.
The platform offers money transfers, electricity, gas and water bill payments, mobile recharges across all operators, bank and card-based wallet top-ups, and online payments, including Banglalink services. Customers will also receive bonuses on their first three Banglalink mobile recharges.
Banglalink Chief Executive Officer Johan Buse said the company was expanding its services beyond connectivity into everyday financial transactions through Mukto Pay.
He said the platform would enable individuals, merchants and businesses to participate in the digital economy through both smartphones and basic mobile phones.
By making digital payments more accessible to underserved communities and small merchants, the platform would promote financial inclusion, he added.
Mukto Pay also offers a dedicated merchant application through which businesses can register, receive payments and monitor transactions using a single dashboard.
The platform is also preparing to introduce Bangla QR, the national QR payment standard, to facilitate interoperable digital payments among participating merchants, reports BSS.
