Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat today said passengers at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport told him they received their luggage within 15 to 20 minutes.
He made the remarks while briefing journalists after visiting the airport this evening and speaking with passengers at the baggage belt area about their travel and baggage collection experiences.
The minister said passengers expressed satisfaction with the service but wanted the standard to be maintained.
He said the government was giving priority to sustaining the quality of passenger services and reducing inconvenience at the airport.
During the interaction, passengers welcomed the newly introduced live baggage monitoring system and thanked the government for the initiative, according to a ministry press release.
They also expressed hope that such public welfare measures would continue.
"Honourable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said, 'I have a plan.' His plans are gradually being implemented across various sectors," Millat said.
"Around two months ago, we decided to introduce a live baggage monitoring system for passengers. Today, you can see its implementation," he added.
The minister said the government would continue initiatives to improve passenger services, ensure transparency in baggage management and ease difficulties faced by travellers.
Responding to a question about Riyadh-bound flights, Millat said operations remained temporarily suspended in line with the Saudi authorities' decision.
Flights would resume once the relevant Saudi authorities granted permission, he said.
Efforts were underway to transport some passengers via Dammam or Madinah as alternative arrangements to ease their difficulties, the minister added.
Newly appointed Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Dr Nurunnahar Chowdhury and senior ministry and Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh officials accompanied the minister, reports BSS.
