Dhaka Customs House seized gold worth around Tk 98.61 lakh, 589 litres of liquor, 2,923 cartons of cigarettes and other goods during 11 separate drives at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka between October 11 and 17.

The seizures also included 350 e-cigarettes, 286 kg of prohibited skin-whitening cream, 92 mobile phones and 315 kg of medicines, according to a press release issued by the Dhaka Customs House under the National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Sunday.

The operations were conducted to protect public health, safeguard consumer rights and prevent revenue evasion, the release said.

During the same period, customs officials collected Tk 1,18,61,256 in duties and taxes on commercial goods exceeding passengers’ baggage allowances.

The NBR said the drives targeted various goods brought through the airport, including prohibited products and items subject to customs duties and taxes, reports UNB.
