‘Guru-Shishya Parampara’ Celebrates the Legacy of Bengali Music

Dhaka, 3 September 2026: Surer Kheya organised a special musical evening, ‘Guru-Shishya Parampara’, on Thursday, 3 September 2026, at Alliance Française de Dhaka, celebrating the rich musical traditions of Bengal and the enduring relationship between guru and disciple.

The programme was graced by AFM Hayatullah, Former Executive Director of the Kabi Nazrul Institute and Dr. Priyanka Gope, Chairperson, Department of Music, Dhaka University as distinguished guests.

The programme featured Shreya Roy, who secured second place in the Nazrul Sangeet category at Notun Kuri 2025, performing alongside her two gurus, Bijon Chandra Mistry and Sanjay Halder. The evening offered audiences an opportunity to experience the musical bond between generations and the role of mentorship in preserving and carrying forward Bengali musical traditions.

The evening also featured performances by artists Nadia Arifir Shawon and Tapasi Roy, with musical arrangements by Pallab Sanyal and Robins Chowdhury.

Through ‘Guru-Shishya Parampara’, Surer Kheya reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the diverse traditions of Bengali culture through creative and contemporary presentations. The organisation aims to nurture an appreciative audience while creating opportunities for younger generations to connect with the country’s rich cultural heritage.

In its journey of nearly a year, Surer Kheya has undertaken initiatives across various cultural disciplines, including music, recitation, dance and instrumental music. The organisation envisions creating a platform where artists can come together, collaborate and support one another, contributing to a vibrant cultural community rooted in creativity, harmony and mutual respect.

‘Guru-Shishya Parampara’ was part of this continuing effort to celebrate Bengali music and strengthen the connection between established practitioners and emerging artists.
