The newly appointed administrator of DSCC Md Abdus Salam spoke at a meeting with senior officials and the waste management department at Nagar Bhaban.
The newly appointed administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Md Abdus Salam, today outlined four priority initiatives to transform Dhaka into a modern, liveable, and environmentally friendly city, in line with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s “Green City, Clean City” vision.
He announced the programmes during a meeting with senior officials and the waste management department at Nagar Bhaban. The four priorities include:
Extensive tree plantation and sustainable urban greening,
Restoration and dredging of canals to maintain natural water flow,
Modern, scientific waste management, and
A coordinated mosquito control drive targeting high-risk areas.
A comprehensive action plan will be prepared within a week and submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office for review. The administrator emphasised the use of modern technology, skilled manpower, and regular monitoring to ensure effective implementation.
With mosquito infestations rising in several wards, DSCC has set up a senior-level monitoring team. Public awareness campaigns involving civil society and ward representatives will also be strengthened. Mobile courts will be deployed, and legal action taken against negligence that leads to mosquito breeding.
Abdus Salam stressed that DSCC is a service-oriented institution responsible for protecting citizens’ rights, and warned that any negligence would face strict action. He also announced that all DSCC civic services are fully operational from today.
Earlier, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain visited DSCC’s central mosquito control chemical warehouse in Dholaipar alongside the administrator, expressing satisfaction and instructing officials to maintain high standards in chemical production for mosquito control.
