Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has directed authorities to expedite the procurement of sufficient body cameras for law enforcement to ensure transparency and peace during the upcoming national election.

He instructed that both the purchase and training processes for bodycams be completed by December to help prevent violence or any untoward incidents during the polls, according to a press release from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing issued on 28 October.

The directive came at a meeting attended by Home Affairs Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Special Assistant on ICT Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Home Secretary Nasimul Gani, and Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam.

Professor Yunus emphasised that all election preparations must be completed promptly to build voters’ confidence in a safe and fair electoral environment.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb said training is already underway with the bodycams currently available, while Home Adviser Jahangir Alam noted that once the new devices arrive, police personnel in all districts will receive training.

He added that the bodycams will enable real-time monitoring of polling centres from both central and district police offices.
