Gas cylinder leak explosion hurts 9 in Mohammadpur

Nine people, including a woman, sustained burn injuries in a gas cylinder explosion in Mohammadpur area of Dhaka on Monday afternoon.


The incident occurred around 2:00 pm today on Humayun Road when a gas cylinder kept in front of a garage reportedly exploded due to leakage, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mejbaha Uddin of Mohammadpur Police Station.

The injured were identified as Md. Tarek Rahman, 23, Md. Mona, 40, Miraj, 36, Rehana Badal, 23, Md. Jony, 35, Md. Akash, 25, Md. Azad, 55, and Irfan, 18.

Police could not immediately confirm whether the victims were passersby or associated with the garage.

The injured were taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery at around 4:00 pm for treatment, said Resident Surgeon of the institute Shawon Bin Rahman.

According to hospital authorities, Tarek suffered burns to 20 percent of his body. Mona sustained 12 percent burns, while Irfan suffered 16 percent. Miraj, Rehana, and Azad each sustained 2 percent burns. Jony suffered 3 percent burns, and Akash sustained 1 percent burns, reports BSS.
