2 siblings killed, 11 hurt in separate road crashes in Bogura

Two siblings were killed and 11 others, including two of their uncles, were severely injured in two separate road crashes in Bogura on Saturday, police said.


The deceased, who died in the crash in Shajahanpur upazila, were identified as Md. Akash, 25, and his brother Md. Arif, 21.

The injured include Md. Polash, 35, and the two uncles of the deceased – Md. Haider Ali, 50, and Md. Abdul Aziz, 38.

They are currently undergoing treatment at Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

According to police, the accident occurred around 12:30 am when a bus collided with a CNG-run autorickshaw in front of Proyas School in Majhira Union on the Dhaka-Bogura highway, leaving Akash dead on the spot. Doctors declared Arif dead upon arrival at the hospital.

In another incident on Bogura Bypass Road around 1 pm, a bus with a burst tyre rammed into three three-wheelers, leaving eight people injured.

Among them, Md. Shakil, 28, Most. Reshmi, 28, Most. Dolna, 50, Most. Salma, 48, Md. Moksedul, 50, and another unidentified person are in critical condition.

Two others with minor injuries were given first aid at Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, reports UNB. 

Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahjahanpur Police Station, said the drivers of both buses managed to flee the scene.

Investigations are underway, he added.
