A woman and her daughter sustained severe burn injuries in a fire reportedly originated from a gas line leakage in Adamjee area of Siddhirganj upazila in Narayanganj district late Monday.

The victims are Nazma Begum, 40, and her 16-year-old daughter Afroza Akter, of the Adamjee area and they were residents of a tin-shed house as tenants. Nazma was a housemaid by profession.

Locals said there has been a leaked gas line under the house of the victims and they heard the sound of an explosion around 12:30 am. Later, they found the house shattered and the duo in critical condition.

They were rushed to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery where they have been undergoing treatment, reports UNB.

Dr Shaon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon of the burn institute, said both the mother and daughter suffered 22 percent burns and their respiratory tracts were also damaged.
