Barishal, Sept 28 — Three friends, including a motorcycle rider, were killed on the spot when a passenger bus hit their motorcycle in Wazirpur upazila of Barishal on Monday evening.

The deceased were identified as Sourav Dhali, 14, son of Kabir Dhali of Atipara village; Tawhid Islam, 13, of the same village; and Mostakin, 14, son of Monir Hossain of neighbouring Dhamshar village.

All three were SSC examinees at Atipara Secondary School.

Quoting locals, Wazirpur Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Faruk Hossain said the three friends had gone out on a motorcycle for a ride.

Around 6:30pm, a Dhaka-bound passenger bus of Suravi Paribahan hit the motorcycle in the Atipara area, leaving motorcycle rider Sourav and his two friends Mostakin and Tawhid dead on the spot.

On information, firefighters from Wazirpur Fire Service and police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.

Police managed to seize the bus, but its driver and other staff members fled the scene.

Following the accident, vehicular movement on the highway remained suspended for around half an hour. Police later restored normal traffic.

Inspector Faruk said further legal action in connection with the incident is under process. - UNB
